Why is it called a stag do?
The term stag party is used in Britain. In the United States, the equivalent used is "bachelor party". Stag comes from a male deer, which populates the hillside and mountain areas of the UK. Red deer are known for their stunning antlers. Very apt to House Of Mulben as real "stags" are shot even a few miles from us in Speyside.
It was in Ancient Greece that it really started its name, though. Before a wedding, feasting, drinking and interesting conversations were associated with deer. Masculinity and vitality are linked by the term stag. Over time, the term "stag party" emerged to refer to these festive gatherings.
Today, the term "stag party" gained it's popularity in 19th Britain. Referring to a man's last moments of freedom. It was a celebration for the groom-to-be and his male friends to enjoy a night or weekend of activities and festivities before the wedding.
As we wrote about in another journal, there can be so much more to a stag do than a night out.
